Not Waving, but...
How like an ebbing tide, my hair,
now flowing locks have ceased to flow.
When I consider what was there
it's very sad to see it go.

One would not notice, day by day,
what's left now from that ebbing tide,
when Father Time has had his way,
were not the parting quite so... wide.

How bare the scalp, of hair bereft;
I think of all the care I gave
to partings, but no parting's left,
All gone, without a farewell wave.

Self-evident truth
"Shortest distance between two points
is a straight line," so Euclid said
So dull a truth it disappoints.
May I suggest something instead?

Would you permit me to observe
there's a lot more fun ... in a curve.

Army Exercise
We climbed the hill in darkness
and stayed there for the night,
wrapped in a single blanket,
to wait the early light.

We marched away at dawning
and then I saw below
solemnly a ghostly sea
roll silently and slow,

and all around saw ev'ry hill
rise in that misty sea,
floating in the upper air
- islands of mystery.
